The barbaric Romans of 2000 years ago designed an early form of “social media,” television, newspaper: Crucifixion. Crosses, mounted on a high hill, for humiliated viciously-treated humans.
So everyone could see. To fear, or to mock.
The two crucified with Jesus were the same as each other. And, by the way, the same as everyone “watching” the “media” of “crosses on a public hilltop.” All were, and are, equally guilty. All needed and need Jesus JUST the same.
Of the two on either side of Jesus on the cross, typifying Humanity, one was humble. The other was callous and proud—not humble and introspective.
This is the Message of the crosses: “We all hang together. Or we hang separately.” Jesus is VERY responsive to those humble enough to see themselves, and then Him.
Jesus’ enemy Lucifer can easily trick the proud, cynical, apathetic, fearful, self-indulgent, self-protective, the worldly, and the shallow. Satan uses the shame, fear, and suspicion created by “the media,” the crosses on the hillside, to give everyone an excuse — to be like the non-introspective criminal alongside Jesus. “I’m not like THAT. My sins aren’t THAT bad.” Yes. They are. Just maybe “different” somewhat. Jesus was pretty clear. Even petty prejudice, bias, evaluating others by appearance, unforgiveness, pride… is actually “murder” in God’s eyes. We are the same.
This is the Message of the crosses: “We all hang together, equally criminals needing Jesus. Or we all hang separately.”
Which criminal will you or I choose to be?
None are righteous. Not even one.
Our illusion of being righteous is only “filthy rags.”
If anyone of you claims to be without sin, you are lying to yourself. That’s God’s stated view.
The Messiah came as Physician, but ONLY for those who know they themselves are part of the problem, and, therefore, judging others makes no sense. Jesus’ righteousness traded for our sins, by our abandonment to Him, aka “saving faith,” is the same for everyone from the fearful, the lazy, the liar, the immoral, the murderer, to the blue hair trans, to the exaggerating manipulative businessman. It’s all exactly the same. It all “falls short of the Glory of God” and only has one Solution: humility and the blood sacrifice of the only righteous human ever: Jesus.
“Don’t you fear God, since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
This is the Message of the crosses: “We all hang together, equally criminals needing Jesus. Or we judge each other, and we all hang separately.”
This IS “the Ecosystem,” the Good News of the Kingdom. We are all here to HELP each other, to “hang Together.”
