Is Golf really “a good run spoiled” as Mark Twain, Winston Churchill, Emerson, or Sam Loates described it?
Lowest 18-Hole Golf Score: The lowest officially recorded 18-hole stroke score on a regulation golf course is 55 strokes by Rhein Gibson at River Oaks Golf Club in Oklahoma, USA (par-71). That’s the Guinness World Record for lowest total strokes in 18 holes.
🏃 Speed Golf, 5-5.5 mile 18-Hole Round: Combined Score & Time
In speed golf, players combine stroke count + time taken to create a “speed golf score” (each minute adds to strokes). Two different types of records are relevant here:
⏱ Fastest Known 18-Hole Round (Time Only)
• The world’s fastest 18-hole round by time alone (not necessarily lowest combined with score) is documented at 36 minutes and 04 seconds by Luke Willett at the Missouri Speedgolf Open 2024; this was officially timed by the International Speed-Golf Association (ISGA).
⛳ Speed Golf Balance (Stroke + Time)
• In competitive speed golf events, the fastest performance with a strong scoring balance recorded by the ISGA is Scott Dawley with 65 strokes in 42:15 (speed golf score of 107:15), which is one of the top certified speed golf performances.
• Guinness World Records also recognizes an earlier speed golf performance by Christopher Smith, who shot 65 in 44:06 (combined score/time 109:06) at the Chicago Speedgolf Classic in 2005.
