Peace! Salaam! Shalom!

All geopolitical opinions aside, it is fair to talk about the Solution for the mystery of the human heart. In the workplace. In the family. Nations rising up against nations, ethnicities rising against ethnicities. Treaties can be negotiated. Peace is a matter of humility and love.

Hostages released. Cease-fire holding. I’m so grateful. Oh, but Peace, Salaam, Shalom is such a fragile thing. How do we maintain it, not just between nations, but between colleagues, friends, spouses… and in our own hearts and minds?

The physical brother of Jesus says this: “What causes wars, fights, and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.” James 4:1-2

And further down, he says, “Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8

Peace and unity between me and ANY other person STARTS with me. I MUST not be “double-minded,” i.e, a person who serves “two masters.” Matthew 6:24

“If then your eye is SINGLE, your whole body will be full of light.” Matthew 6:22

When I WANT, WANT, WANT for myself, I will, ipso facto, come against what YOU want. Two conflicting ‘wants’ end in… conflict. That’s just how it works.

True PEACE is found, not in wanting for myself, but in living in 100% Harmony with my Maker and His will and plans.

When two people live that way, there is peace between them.

When two people groups live that way, there is peace between them.

TODAY, you may not be able to make a difference in the Middle East. But in your workplace, in your community, in your home, in your own heart, you CAN make every effort to have a single eye and a single heart to listen to the true King, and NOT the thousands of competing voices that scream, “Serve yourself.” Serving yourself only leads to war in some form or another. Always. INSTEAD: Be the salt. Be light. Choose the wholeness of a single/united heart. Then you, too, will be a peacemaker!

My prayer for you today: Peace! Salaam! Shalom!
