“It’s Never Been Done Before” Means What, Exactly?

“It’s never been done before” means what, exactly?! The University of Tennessee is the reigning NCAA baseball champion, ranked First in NCAA basketball, and is playing Ohio State in “The Shoe” 11 days from today, #6 vs. #7, in the NCAA football National Championship playoffs, Final Twelve. Four games to another National Championship.

No one has ever won three national championships in the same year in three different major sports, in NCAA Division One. Ever. This “impossible” achievement is referred to as the “Triple Crown”.

Harvard versus Yale was the first US University sports competition. After 150 years — will this be that Triple Crown, finally? 😎⚾️🏀🏈

In 2014, Division III University of Wisconsin-Whitewater became the first school in NCAA history to win national championships in football, men’s basketball, and baseball in the same academic year. But then, that was Division Three, and still it took 140 years.

The University of Florida in 2006 was the first and only program to win national championships in both football and men’s basketball in the same year. The baseball team was 28–28, 10–20 in the SEC: totally completely unranked.

Only seven schools have won national championships in football, men’s basketball, and baseball, but not in the same year: Ohio State, UCLA, Michigan, Florida, University of Texas, University of Minnesota, and USC.

Is now the time? Go Vols, Big Orange!
