It’s really BACKMASKING! Secret messages in a speech! We thought it was mumbling. No! We “decoded” the strategy being used by various presidential candidates at campaign events! Brilliant!
It’s a little old school, but that’s the genius of it! Captain Crunch decoder rings, Dick Tracy decoder watches, lemon juice invisible ink, and BACKMASKING!
A secret message is inserted when the song “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin is played backwards. The secret backmasked message in the song starts with the lyrics “If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow”.
Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust”, contains the backmasked message “It’s fun to smoke marijuana” when played in reverse.
The Beatles’ “Revolution 9” also contains backmasked messages like “Get me out, get me out!”, which some fans claimed was related to the “Paul is dead” conspiracy theory.
Radioheads “Hail to the Thief” (ironically) has its own backmasked coded, top secret message.
Pink Floyd’s “Empty Spaces” has a backmasked message saying “Hello, hunters. Congratulations. You’ve just discovered the secret message.”
The B-52’s did it. Coldplay did it. Deep Purple, Def Leppard, ELO, Eminem, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Motörhead, of course Ozzy Osbourne, Prince, Styx, and Randy Stonehill.
Oh, and who could forget the kings of clandestine communication, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Frank Zappa?
So we have awesome precedent for what our presidential candidates are up to! We think it’s jumbled incoherent talk, but instead it is secret messages being delivered by highly sophisticated live speech BACKMASKING.
We should be in awe of their speaking skills — now that we know what they’re up to!
It’s time we decode those secret messages now, instead of giggling!
