We CAN Continually Position Ourselves to Succeed

We don’t get to decide the “path to success” — but we CAN continually “position” ourselves to succeed. “Promotion comes not from the east, nor the west, nor the south.”

And Hofstadter’s Law, your timeline is always going to be wrong: https://lnkd.in/enxWqmUd

Harrison Ford started his career in Hollywood as a carpenter before becoming famous for his roles in Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

He noticed that most aspiring actors were in a hurry to make it big, and he decided to take a different approach. He chose to extend his timeline by finding another source of income and becoming a carpenter.

By doing so, he was able to wait it out while many of his competitors dropped out of the race. Ford enjoyed carpentry because it gave him a sense of peace and he also thought it could lead to an acting job.

He became known as the “carpenter to the stars” and worked for famous clients like Francis Ford Coppola, James Caan, Richard Dreyfuss, and Joan Didion.

Eventually, George Lucas asked Ford to read with other actors during casting meetings for Star Wars, and he was chosen to play the role of Han Solo.

Ford’s strategy of “sticking it out” is similar to the military strategy of winning through attrition, which emphasizes endurance over direct attacks.

“Lengthen your timeline.. It always takes longer than you think it’s going to take. That’s Hofstadter’s law. And even when you take the law into account, you’re still surprised” – Ryan Holiday
