Jeffrey Sachs has made significant contributions to promoting sustainable development, poverty reduction, and addressing global challenges through his work as an economist, advisor to world leaders, and advocate for progressive policies. Here are some of his notable liberal and progressive accomplishments: 
 
Championing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 
 
– Sachs played a pivotal role in the formulation and adoption of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, which aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. He helped build consensus among nations on this ambitious global agenda. 
 
– He established the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) in 2012 to mobilize scientific and technical expertise in support of the SDGs. The SDSN now has over 1,600 member institutions across 137 countries. 
 
Advising on Poverty Reduction Strategies 
 
– As an advisor to UN Secretary-Generals from 2001-2018, Sachs provided guidance on implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aimed at reducing extreme poverty, hunger, disease, and promoting education and environmental sustainability globally. 
 
– He directed the UN Millennium Project from 2002-2006, developing an integrated rural development plan to achieve the MDGs by addressing economic, social, and environmental dimensions together. 
 
Promoting Holistic Sustainable Development 
 
– Sachs has advocated for addressing economic development, social inclusion, and environmental protection in an integrated manner, as outlined in his book “The Age of Sustainable Development.” 
 
– He led the Millennium Villages Project from 2006-2015, implementing integrated rural development strategies to achieve the MDGs in 10 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, impacting over 500,000 lives. 
 
Climate Change Mitigation and Clean Energy 
 
– Sachs has been instrumental in formulating policy concepts for global climate change mitigation and supporting the Paris Agreement. 
 
– He has championed strategies for transitioning to clean energy systems and “deep decarbonization” pathways for major economies to reduce emissions.
