King Solomon Time II

They should have considered my King Solomon solution: cut the time zone in half! Don’t give up yet! In the 119th Congress (2025–2026), the attempt to end “spring ahead, fall behind“ time zones was re-introduced as the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 (House Bill H.R. 139 in the House and Senate Bill S. 29 in the Senate). Renewed momentum, but nothing has been accomplished yet to end the nonsense.

102% of Americans agree!

It’s of course a “first world problem,” but read my post from six months ago below… You will see how we can resolve this craziness. 20% of the world‘s population is already doing this. It’s our turn. Let’s get this passed. Spread the word 😎.

In March 2022, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021 (Senate Bill S.623) passed the U.S. Senate by unanimous consent on March 15. The bill would make daylight saving time the new permanent standard time, effective November 5, 2023, and allow states that currently observe year-round Standard Time to choose which time zone they remain in. However, although the Senate approved it, the bill did not advance in the House of Representatives, so it did not become law.

The debate around these bills centers on multiple issues:
 • Supporters argue that eliminating the clock change would remove the twice-yearly disruption of “spring forward” and “fall back,” providing longer evening daylight that can boost commerce, recreation, and even mental health.
 • Opponents warn that choosing permanent daylight saving time instead of permanent standard time means that in winter many regions would face very late sunrises, which could impact morning routines, school commutes, and overall public safety.
 • Additionally, federal law currently allows states to opt out of daylight saving time (stay on standard time) but does not allow them to adopt daylight saving time year-round without congressional action, so reform requires a change at the national level.

King Solomon said… What if daylight savings time and standard time were resolved down the middle this autumn? Just as King Solomon famously solved a dispute by suggesting a contested “object“ be cut in half, what if? We can call it KST, King Solomon Time.

Boom baby!

13 countries and 20% of the world‘s population already live in a “half time zone“.

48% of Americans prefer permanent Standard Time, according to Gallup polls conducted in early 2025.

Stetson University found a preference for permanent Daylight Savings Time at 54%.

That’s how messed up we are. 48+54 = 102% of Americans have an opinion.

Only 19% prefer keeping the current system of moving the clock twice a year.

We are literally confusing the daylights out of our roosters.

Some believe Benjamin Franklin came up with Daylight Saving Time because he joked about waking up early to save on candles in a 1784 essay. But the modern idea actually started with George Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist, who proposed it in 1895. Later, William Willett, a British builder, refined the concept in the early 1900s. The US implemented DST in 1918.

Today
the 107-year-old problem…
consider it solved. KST.

As Reggie Miller would say, BOOM BABY!
