Democracy is a system of government where power is vested in the people, aka popular vote. A representative democracy is a specific form of democracy where citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf. In a direct democracy, citizens vote on issues directly, majority wins, even if they’re all on the coast, while in a representative democracy, elected officials from each specific region deliberate and decide legislation. Radically different forms of government in order to preserve states’ rights and the culture and personality of a region. The founding fathers chose the electoral college to assist that concept.
