The Healthcare Housing Navigator

Picture this: you or a loved one are facing a serious medical diagnosis and the care you need isn’t available in your home community. In such a challenging time, finding a safe and affordable place to stay shouldn’t be an added burden — yet for so many, it is.

That’s why efforts like this are so important. A parent of a son born with a rare health condition, Dr. Jenny Owens, and her amazing team of student research fellows, community housing advocates, and former students, developed The Healthcare Housing Navigator to help caregivers, patients and their care teams find patient centered housing near hospitals.

If you or someone you care about could benefit from this resource, please take a look and share it widely. More information can be found in the linked post!”

I am thrilled to share the launch of a project close to my heart—the Healthcare Housing Navigator! 🎉

This free, national resource is designed to support patients and caregivers by bridging the gap between medical travel and critical lodging needs. The Healthcare Housing Navigator offers a user-friendly, comprehensive map to locate healthcare housing options across the United States (we found 502!).

Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, or healthcare provider, this tool is here to simplify the search for supportive lodging during medical treatments—empowering users with quick and reliable access to essential housing. We envision a society where everyone, regardless of geographic location, has the social support and resources to receive the healthcare the need.

I’d love for you to explore the site, share it with your networks, and let me know your thoughts on this pilot. So many people helped make this real, and I want to thank student research fellows Jenina Ezra DavidVictoria Williams, BSN, RN, Victoria Ezeji, CNP, community housing leaders Angie BushHanif SmithElaine TurleyPatty Metropulos, MPASean MeyerhofferToni MooreJessica McKenna of the Healthcare Housing Network, amazing former students Godwin OkoyePeter Campbell, Van Anh “Fifi” Nguyen, Jourdan Foote and colleagues Meghan Bruce -Bojo , Justin W.Katelyn Donnelly, Leandra Cate & Sam Steele for flexing collaborative muscles and giving their time to help us figure out what information would be best to collect, the data collection itself (woah!) and the creation of the interactive map in ArcGIS. Last but not least to Roger Ward, EdD, JD, MSL, MPAFlavius Lilly, and Joey Mattingly for cheering the project on.

Sharing is caring, please share this with your networks to help get the word out!
